With the summer transfer window now closed, and no certainty over whether any moves will be made in January, the Real Madrid hierarchy is turning its attention to assessing the futures of several first-team players heading into the coming months of the season.
According to OK Diario, the club wants to guarantee the continuity of two players considered essential to the squad: Turkey international Arda Guler, 21, and England international Jude Bellingham, 23.
In Guler's case, the club wants to adjust his salary to reflect his status within the squad and extend his contract beyond its current 2029 expiry. For Bellingham, in addition to extending his deal to 2031, Real Madrid intend to place him on the same salary tier as Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior.
The club also wants to renew its trust in goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, though his case differs given his age. The Belgian, 34, will be offered a one-year extension until 2028.
"His performances leave no room for doubt. His age, however, means the club's policy has to be respected. He will renew for one season and will have to prove again on the pitch that time hasn't caught up with him yet," the report explained.
Less certain, however, is the continuity of defender Antonio Rudiger, 33. The German extended his contract by one year last summer, and any future beyond this season will depend entirely on his performances on the pitch throughout the campaign.
Should he maintain a strong level, Real Madrid will offer him a further year; if not, he will have to find a new club when his current deal expires at the end of the season.
The moves form part of a broader plan by the Real Madrid hierarchy to lock down the core of Jose Mourinho's squad, distinguishing between long-term deals for younger players and shorter, performance-based renewals for those over the age of 30 in the current squad.
