The setback is a frustrating one for a player signed specifically to address Leipzig's need for attacking reinforcements, with head coach Martín Demichelis having been light on senior striking options even before Guiu's injury.
Having struggled for consistent playing time during his two seasons at Chelsea, including a recalled loan spell at Sunderland, Guiu will now have to be patient once again before he gets the chance to establish himself in Saxony, with his fitness and match sharpness both likely to need rebuilding once he does return to full training.
A product of Barcelona's La Masia academy, Guiu made his senior breakthrough with a dramatic late winner on his debut for the Catalan club before moving to Chelsea in 2024. He struggled to hold down a regular role at Stamford Bridge across two seasons, managing only a handful of Premier League starts amid competition from other forwards, before RB Leipzig moved to sign him permanently this summer in search of a fresh start.
The German club will now be forced to manage without him at exactly the point in the season when they were hoping he could begin repaying their investment, with the timing especially unfortunate given how few minutes he had managed to accumulate before the setback.
