The Brazil forward signed an extension in May 2025 that runs until June 2028, but Barcelona are reported to have opened talks over a longer deal, and the 29-year-old made his own position clear in an interview with RAC1 released on Friday.
"Yes, I plan to renew. When I renewed my contract, I did it until 2028 with the idea that I would be 30 or 31 and I didn't know how I would be, but, the way I have started the season, it gives me a few more years and I'd be very happy to be able to extend my contract," he said.
"And hopefully finish my career here, without having to go elsewhere," Raphinha added.
The numbers back up his case. Raphinha has scored nine goals in six LaLiga matches, two more than Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappé, and has two more in the Champions League. He has started all seven games Barcelona have played this season, most recently scoring a hat-trick, two of them penalties, in Wednesday's 7-2 win over Racing de Santander at Spotify Camp Nou.
Hansi Flick's side have won all seven of those games, scoring 33 goals and topping LaLiga on 18 points, and the man deployed as their false nine has been at the heart of it.
It is quite a turnaround for a player who was on the transfer list in the summer of 2024, when Barcelona were interested in Nico Williams of Athletic Club. Raphinha, who joined from Leeds United in 2022, went on to score 34 goals in all competitions in 2024-25 as Barcelona won a domestic treble, finished fifth in the 2025 Ballon d'Or voting and is now one of the club's captains, having moved into the centre-forward role following Robert Lewandowski's departure.
Flick praised the forward at his press conference on Friday, ahead of the trip to Sevilla.
"In the last two seasons we started the press with the nine and Raphinha has that hunger and mentality. He's at a very high level. He doesn't just score goals, he also defends. He starts the press well. As captain, he goes in front and the others follow him," Flick said.
Barcelona sporting director Deco struck a similar note a few days ago.
"He's happy here and that's important. The manager has got the maximum out of him with his emotional management. I see him very well. We're always attentive to our players so that renewals don't catch us by surprise... and then we have meritocracy, so that there are balanced contracts and no problems."
