Spanish newspaper AS reports that several English clubs are showing interest in the 28-year-old. The paper names Newcastle United, Coventry City and Leeds United, while West Ham United, who are in the Championship, are also said to be considering the Englishman.
Ramsdale left Arsenal for Southampton in the summer of 2024, in a deal worth £18 million with the potential to rise to £25 million. He had been Arsenal's first-choice goalkeeper in 2022-23, playing every minute of the Premier League season as they finished second, but lost his place to David Raya the following year. Southampton were relegated from the Premier League in his first season there.
Last season he was on loan at Newcastle, on a season-long deal completed in August 2025 with an option to buy the following summer. There he was reunited with Eddie Howe, the manager who had signed him for Bournemouth in 2017, and Newcastle had also looked into signing him from Arsenal in 2024 but could not agree a fee.
He played 28 competitive games for the club, 12 of them in the Premier League, but Newcastle did not activate the option, and he has now returned to Southampton.
At St Mary's he is not getting any playing time and appears set to leave in January. Southampton are back in the Championship, and Ramsdale, who has made five appearances for the England senior team, is unlikely to be content with a place on the bench in the second tier, particularly as a 28-year-old with international experience.
He has also played for Sheffield United and Bournemouth, and his experience at the top of the English game will appeal to the clubs mentioned. For Newcastle, a return would bring back a goalkeeper they know well, while Leeds and Coventry could see him as a Premier League-level option.
With the January window still months away, Ramsdale can wait to see which clubs make a concrete offer, and none of the reported interest has yet gone beyond talk.
