Speaking to DAZN ahead of Torino's Serie A meeting with AS Roma, Petrachi addressed the transfer links between the two clubs directly, revealing that Gian Piero Gasperini personally identified Cacciamani as a target during the window.
"Yes, it's a player Roma like, I think Gasperini has had his eye on him," Petrachi said. "But we had settled on the idea of not selling him unless a really significant request came in. An important offer did arrive, but not one that made us waver. So we're happy to have him, and I hope he can contribute today too, even if he starts from the bench.
"But the coach also makes choices based on the opponent and the strategy."
Petrachi also gave an update on Giovanni Simeone's fitness, with the forward managing a back issue rather than a standard muscular complaint ahead of the match.
"Let's say he's testing things out with the team now, and we're here to understand whether he'll actually make it, because he's had a back spasm, so it's not the usual muscular niggle - his back has properly locked up," Petrachi said. "So now we're trying to work out how he'll manage his first movements."
On the broader summer transfer window, Petrachi said head coach Marco Baroni had received the reinforcements needed to execute his plans, even if some new arrivals still need time to settle.
"I'd say so, yes, also because the functional players who were needed for what he had in mind, what he has in mind, have arrived," Petrachi said. "They've integrated well, though a few others still need a bit more time, especially to build up their fitness, but let's say we're happy."
Petrachi, who has a past spell as Roma's sporting director, was also asked whether facing his former club carried any extra emotional weight.
"Roma was an intense year, a really deep one, and I left with some good relationships," he said. "Unfortunately there were some rather particular circumstances, but that doesn't take away from the fact I spent an important year there.
"Roma is certainly a club that gave me a lot, from an emotional point of view too, because the fans welcomed me well. So it's always a fixture to look forward to. For me it remains an important match, but today I'm at Torino, so today perhaps it means even more."
Cacciamani has emerged as one of Torino's most closely watched young talents this season, with Petrachi making clear the club had no intention of parting with him regardless of the interest from Serie A rivals. The winger was among the substitutes for the meeting with Roma, with Baroni free to weigh up whether to introduce him depending on how the match unfolded at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino.
