Openda's spell in Turin lasted barely a year: he arrived from RB Leipzig last summer initially on loan before a mandatory purchase clause, triggered by Juventus finishing in the top 10 of Serie A, converted the move into a permanent €42.75m transfer.
He managed just two goals, against Roma and Bodø/Glimt, in 34 appearances across Serie A, the Champions League and Coppa Italia, a return that also cost him a place in Belgium's World Cup squad this summer.
Confirming the move in an official statement, Juventus said the transfer to Lyon was now official and that the Belgian forward would wear the French club's colours throughout the 2026-27 season, noting his earlier career had already taken in spells in Belgium, the Netherlands, France and Germany before his move to Turin.
The club wished him well for his return to Ligue 1, where Openda previously spent time on loan at Lens before his move to Leipzig, a stint that first established him as one of European football's most productive young forwards.
Lyon, coached by Paulo Fonseca, unveiled their new signing on social media with a short video of the forward playing piano, captioned "to Lyon for a new beginning," as the club looks to him to provide firepower after a difficult debut season in Turin failed to deliver on his early promise as one of Europe's most sought-after young strikers.
