The French winger was linked with a move to Real Madrid throughout the close season after an outstanding debut campaign in Bavaria. Speaking to Sport Bild, Eberl admitted he had hesitated before opening a WhatsApp message from Olise during the World Cup, fearing it might contain a formal request to leave.
"Michael sent me a WhatsApp during the World Cup. I hesitated briefly before opening it because I didn't know whether he might actually bring up this topic," Eberl said.
"But it was a photo with Manu Koné, whom I had brought to Gladbach at the time, with a heart underneath. The two of them sent me kind regards from America. After that I asked Michael whether he wanted to wear number 11 next season. But he wanted to keep 17. That was my contact with Michael, so everything was always fine."
Olise, who has 25 caps for France, has been a revelation since joining from Crystal Palace for a reported €60 million in 2024. He scored 14 goals and provided 18 assists in 31 Bundesliga appearances last season and was instrumental in Bayern's run to the Champions League semi-finals, where they were eliminated by Paris Saint-Germain.
Eberl has made it clear that the 24-year-old is not for sale at any price.
"If you want to win the Champions League, this question does not arise. That is the beauty of Bayern Munich: you don't have to weaken at any sum," Eberl said.
Despite that stance, the club is conscious that Olise may eventually seek a new challenge. Chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen recently hinted that discussions about the winger's future would take place next summer, while Eberl suggested the club needs clarity on whether Olise is open to extending his contract beyond its 2029 expiry.
"We should know by next summer whether there is a tendency towards an extension from his side or not," Eberl said.
For now, Olise remains fully committed to Bayern and is expected to be a central figure in Vincent Kompany's side as they aim to go one step further in Europe this season.
