Justin Oboavwoduo says joining Juventus from Manchester City was an easy decision despite the challenges of leaving England and adapting to life in Italy.

The 2006-born forward recently made his Serie A debut for Juventus after joining the club’s Next Gen side from Manchester City in February.

Oboavwoduo says Juventus’ status and the plan presented to him made the move straightforward.

“Obviously Juventus is the biggest team in Italy and has a great history,” he said in an interview with the club’s official channels.

“When they called me and were seriously interested in bringing me here, it was not a difficult decision to make, especially because of how they saw me fitting into the system and what the plan for me could be if I worked hard and played well.”

Oboavwoduo had spent his formative years at Manchester City before moving to Turin, but says leaving his family and adapting to a new country presented a far greater challenge than choosing Juventus.

“The language was one of the biggest challenges because I did not speak Italian,” Oboavwoduo said. “It was also the first time I had moved away from my family.”

The teenager had to adjust to living independently and dealing with everyday tasks that had previously been handled around the family home.

“Living alone, doing things on my own, having to buy all the groceries for the first time or buy a television,” he said. “The simple things in life that you do not do until you live alone.”

The distance from home was particularly difficult after spending his formative football years in Manchester.

“The distance from home and family in Manchester was the biggest difficulty,” Oboavwoduo said.

“There was a huge sense of joy and pride for me and my whole family,” he added of joining Juventus.

At Juventus Next Gen, Oboavwoduo has also praised the value of playing regularly against experienced professionals rather than facing second teams every week.

“The Next Gen project is excellent because you play against adults every week, whereas in England you play second team against second team,” he said.

“Playing in the league every week against experienced professionals helps you grow and makes you ready for any future challenge.”

He also highlighted his relationship with coach Massimo Brambilla and the staff, who he says demand a high standard while helping him identify areas for improvement.

“With Brambilla and the staff I have a great relationship based on honesty,” he said. “They expect a lot from me because they know what I can offer the team and want me to show my qualities in every training session and every match.”

Oboavwoduo now sees the Next Gen pathway as an important step towards establishing himself at Juventus.
