Gordon backs Barcelona to win every trophy

Anthony Gordon says Barcelona have the quality to win every trophy this season after settling into life at the Catalan club following his move from Newcastle.

The England winger has been impressed by the way Barcelona play and believes the style has similarities to the football he experienced at Newcastle, although he has noticed a clear difference in intensity.

“What Barça represents to me is that the opponent touches the ball as little as possible. Now we also have aggression,” Gordon told the club’s official magazine. “I have adapted well because it is a very similar game to Newcastle. The main difference with the Premier League is the intensity, here everything is more measured and based on control and possession.”

Gordon believes his movement has also benefited from playing alongside Barcelona’s midfielders, particularly Pedri.

“I have made many runs throughout my career that nobody saw, but now Pedri sees them,” he said. “I want to win all the trophies and we have a squad capable of achieving it.”

The 25-year-old also revealed which Barcelona team left the biggest impression on him, while naming his favourite player in the club’s history apart from Lionel Messi.

“The best Barça I have seen is Pep Guardiola’s, the one that won the Champions League with players like Xavi and Iniesta,” Gordon said. “My favourite player in Barça history, leaving Messi aside, is Luis Suárez.”

Gordon also credited Eric GarcĂa and Dani Olmo with helping him settle in, particularly when communicating with teammates.

“Eric García has helped me a lot because he speaks perfect English, and Dani Olmo too,” he said. “I understand Spanish but when they speak very quickly between themselves it is harder for me to follow them.”

The winger has also been surprised by how warmly Barcelona supporters have received him.

“This fanbase has admired players like Messi, Ronaldinho, Luis Suárez and many of the best players in history and I did not expect to feel so appreciated from the first moment,” he said.

He admits he still wants to improve his goalscoring.

Gordon also praised Hansi Flick and said he does not believe pressure should become an issue.

“I don't really believe in pressure, it is something you create yourself, in your mind,” Gordon said. “If you did not feel pressure as a child, you should not feel it now either. I enjoy playing.”

The winger is therefore approaching his first Barcelona season with an ambitious target: competing for every major trophy while continuing to adapt to his new surroundings.
