Newcastle United have reportedly sent two scouts to watch Valencia winger David Otorbi, with the teenager attracting attention after an impressive performance in Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Racing Santander.

According to Spanish reports, Newcastle representatives were present at El Sardinero to assess the 18-year-old, who came off the bench and scored Valencia’s equaliser before almost creating a late winner.

Otorbi entered the match with Valencia trailing 2-1 and made an immediate impact. He finished a move involving Javi Guerra to register his first goal for the senior side, helping his team secure a point.

He then threatened to turn the draw into a victory, beating his marker on the right before delivering a ball across the area for Hugo Duro. The striker was unable to convert the opportunity.

The performance reportedly impressed Newcastle’s scouts, who were monitoring both the winger’s attacking ability and his willingness to compete physically against more experienced opponents.

Otorbi has already made history at Valencia. In January 2024, he became the club’s youngest-ever player when he made his senior debut aged 16 years, two months and 19 days.

The Spain youth international has been working to establish himself in the first team, and his contribution against Racing offered an encouraging sign of his potential. His direct running and ability to take on defenders make him an intriguing prospect for clubs looking to invest in young attacking talent.

Valencia have moved to protect their position by securing Otorbi’s future. He signed a new contract in April that runs until 2028, with the club holding an option to extend the agreement by a further three years.

That arrangement means Newcastle would need to negotiate with Valencia if their interest develops into a formal approach. There is no indication that a transfer has been agreed or that an offer has been submitted.

For now, the scouting mission appears to be an assessment of a player whose profile is rising after a breakthrough performance. Otorbi’s late impact against Racing has strengthened his case for further first-team opportunities while placing him on Newcastle United’s radar ahead of future transfer windows.
