Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk's ongoing doping suspension is costing his former club Shakhtar Donetsk £26 million in performance-related bonuses, the Ukrainian club's general director has revealed.

Shakhtar negotiated €30 million worth of incentives into the £88 million deal that took Mudryk to Stamford Bridge in January 2023, tied to playing time and Chelsea's results. With the 25-year-old locked out of football while his case progresses through the Court of Arbitration for Sport, none of those bonuses can be triggered.

Shakhtar general director Sergei Palkin told journalist Ben Jacobs: "We have €30 million of bonuses in his contract. If he's not playing, or Chelsea aren't reaching results, we are losing €30 million. That's a big financial impact for us."

Palkin said Shakhtar remain in the dark about when the case will be resolved.

"I know Mudryk as a player and a person. I believe he will return and start playing again. Everybody is waiting for the court's decision, and we don't have any information about when this will take place."

Mudryk has not played since a Europa Conference League match on 28 November 2024. He was provisionally suspended in December of that year after returning a positive test for a banned substance, and was formally charged in June 2025. Reports in Ukraine that the substance involved is meldonium are understood to be accurate.

His Chelsea contract runs until 2031 and includes clauses tied to winning the Premier League and Champions League, as well as individual performance bonuses. Should the charge be proven, Mudryk could face a ban of up to four years, leaving his career at serious risk.

No date for a final CAS ruling has been confirmed.
