Midfielder Folorunsho's move was confirmed after his contract registration was formally lodged, with an official statement from both clubs following shortly after. Napoli said in their statement: "SSC Napoli announce they have loaned out the services of player Michael Folorunsho to A.C. Monza, with a right of option. Good luck, Michael!"
It marked the second Napoli departure of the day, after winger Cyril Ngonge completed an identical loan move to newly promoted Monza that morning.
Folorunsho, born in Rome on 7 February 1998, came through Lazio's youth ranks before starting his senior career at Virtus Francavilla. Napoli signed him from the Serie C club in the summer of 2019, and after loan spells including at Bari and Reggina, he made his top-flight debut with Hellas Verona in 2023-24, where he scored five goals in 34 appearances and became the first Hellas player to be called up and make his tournament debut for Italy at a European Championship.
That form earned him a recall to Napoli, before further loan spells at Fiorentina and Cagliari. He now moves to Monza, coached by Ivan Jurić, for what will be his third consecutive loan in Serie A.
Ngonge, a Belgium international born in Uccle in 2000, progressed through Club Brugge's academy before moves to PSV Eindhoven, RKC Waalwijk and Groningen preceded his switch to Hellas Verona in January 2023.
Napoli signed him in January 2024, and he went on to make 35 appearances for the club, winning the Serie A title in May 2025. Last season he was loaned first to Torino and then to Espanyol in LaLiga. The move to Monza is intended to give the winger the regular game time he has been unable to find since leaving Verona, with the deal running until 30 June 2027.
Both loans include an option to buy in Monza's favour, and the club is understood to be continuing its business before the market closes, with a new goalkeeper among the positions still being targeted after also completing the arrival of defender Jan Ziolkowski.
