The 18-year-old Dagestani-born prospect is now weighing up his international future.
The Manchester Evening News reported that Ibragimov has not yet made a final decision on his allegiance. He has previously represented England at Under-15 and Under-16 level and remains eligible for both nations. No commitment to Russia has been confirmed at this stage.
Ibragimov was born in the Republic of Dagestan and moved to England with his family at the age of 11, initially joining Sheffield United's academy before transferring to Carrington. He captained Manchester United's Under-14 and Under-15 sides and trained with Michael Carrick's first-team squad for the first time in 2023, at the age of 15 โ a marker of just how quickly he had caught the attention of the coaching staff.
He scored eight goals and provided six assists in 22 Under-18 Premier League appearances in the 2024/25 season, also featuring in Premier League 2 and the FA Youth Cup. He recently returned from a five-month injury absence, coming off the bench in the Premier League Cup final against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
The Russia friendlies in question take place later this month. Russia have been excluded from FIFA and UEFA competition since February 2022 and play only friendly matches against non-UEFA opponents. Should Ibragimov appear in an official FIFA-recognised competitive international for Russia, his eligibility for England would be extinguished. A friendly does not carry the same consequences but would signal the direction of travel.
Ibragimov's older brother Ibragim is an undefeated professional MMA fighter. A younger brother, Muhammad, is also in the Manchester United academy after joining from Manchester City.
The decision he makes about his international future in the coming weeks is one that cannot easily be undone.
