Rayan Cherki has underlined his commitment to expressive, attacking football as Manchester City continue their pursuit of silverware, with the French midfielder insisting creativity remains central to his identity on the pitch.

The 22-year-old joined Manchester City from Olympique Lyonnais in the summer of 2025 and has quickly become an influential figure in Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Cherki has registered 11 goals and 16 assists in 51 competitive appearances, establishing himself as one of City’s most productive creative outlets during a demanding campaign.

City currently sit second in the Premier League table with four matches remaining, keeping pressure on the leaders as the season approaches its decisive phase.

Known for his flair and close control, Cherki has repeatedly drawn attention for his willingness to take risks in possession and attempt moments of individual brilliance.

“I want football not to become an ordinary sport, or something people watch less and less. I want people who are less passionate about football to say it is a sport that brings emotions.”

That was the message from Cherki in an interview with Sky Sports, where he spoke about the importance of entertainment and emotional connection in the modern game.

“I don’t want to stop being a football romantic. Football is my whole life, and being that kind of player is part of me.”

Cherki’s comments come as Manchester City continue to balance control with invention in their attacking play, with his role increasingly important in unlocking tight matches.

City’s next league fixture sees them travel to Brentford, where the title race pressure is expected to intensify further.

For Cherki, the focus remains unchanged: expressing himself, creating chances, and keeping football alive with unpredictability.
