Manchester City could let young striker Sangare leave

Mahamadou Sangare opted to leave Paris Saint-Germain for Manchester City last summer rather than sign a new contract with the French club.

The 19-year-old France Under-19 international made the move on a free transfer after Manchester City won the race for his signature ahead of several other European clubs, but has so far only featured for City's Under-21 side during his debut season in England.

He did, however, make an impression at academy level, scoring 15 goals in 30 appearances, including a hat-trick against Monaco in the UEFA Youth League.

It had already been reported in November that Sangare was keen on a January exit in search of regular football, though he ultimately stayed put for the remainder of the season.

It remains to be seen whether he will get a chance in Manchester City's first team next season, with rumours now emerging of a possible departure this summer instead.

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that the young forward is expected to leave Manchester City ahead of next season.

Several clubs have made approaches for Sangare, with Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga said to be his most likely destinations.

Manchester City have built a reputation in recent years for recruiting highly-rated teenage talents from across Europe, often with a view to developing them through loan spells or the wider City Football Group before any potential involvement in the first team.

Sangare's situation now looks set to follow a similar pattern in reverse, with the club prepared to let him leave permanently rather than block his path to first-team football elsewhere.

A move to Ligue 1 would represent a homecoming of sorts for the Mali-born forward, who came through the Racing Club and Montrouge academies in the Paris region before joining Paris Saint-Germain as a teenager.
