Manchester United are showing the strongest interest in Como defender Jacobo Ramón, although Real Madrid hold a significant advantage through their buy-back agreement.

The 21-year-old has developed into one of the most highly regarded young centre-backs in Serie A since leaving the Spanish giants in the summer of 2025. His progress under Cesc Fàbregas has attracted attention from several Premier League clubs, with Manchester United now identified as the most persistent suitors.

According to AS, United have been making the strongest enquiries about Ramón, while Chelsea and Liverpool are also monitoring his development. The interest is not yet at the stage of formal negotiations, and the defender is expected to remain at Como during the January transfer window.

Ramón joined the Italian club for an initial €2.5 million, with Real Madrid retaining 50 per cent of his economic rights and securing a buy-back option. AS reports that the clause would allow the Spanish club to bring him back for approximately €10 million.

That arrangement gives Madrid considerable control over the defender’s future, particularly given how much his reputation has grown since moving to Italy. His performances have reportedly pushed his market valuation towards €45 million, making the buy-back provision especially favourable for his former club.

Manchester United’s interest has intensified following Ramón’s impressive displays, including his goal in Como’s 4-1 Champions League victory over the English side in October. The defender has also earned his first senior Spain call-up, another indication of the progress he has made.

AS reports that Ramón is currently focused on continuing his development at Como rather than pursuing an immediate move. Regular football under Fàbregas has been central to his emergence, and a January departure is not expected.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, are pleased with the development of their former academy player and have been monitoring his progress. The club are considering their longer-term defensive options, but are not expected to make a definitive decision until later in the season.

For United, the challenge is therefore not simply competing with other Premier League clubs. Even if their interest develops into a concrete offer, Madrid’s contractual position could make it difficult for Como to negotiate a straightforward sale.

Ramón remains under contract with Como until 2030, but his performances have ensured that his future is becoming an increasingly significant transfer story ahead of the summer of 2027.
