Inter Milan head coach Cristian Chivu is expected to receive reinforcements at the back following the contract expiries of Francesco Acerbi, Matteo Darmian and Stefan de Vrij, all of whom are leaving the club at the end of June. The defensive rebuild is the most pressing item on sporting director Beppe Marotta's summer agenda.
The first name on their list is Oumar Solet, the 26-year-old French centre-back at Udinese. Solet has impressed consistently in Serie A and is understood to have verbally agreed personal terms with Inter, with the clubs now negotiating a fee. A deal running until 2031 has been mooted.
Maguire, 33, signed a new contract at Manchester United in April that ties him to the club until June 2027 with an option for a further year. Manager Michael Carrick praised his leadership and professionalism when confirming the extension. Despite the renewal, his involvement at Old Trafford has remained inconsistent — he made 23 Premier League appearances this season, starting 19 — and intermediaries have tested the market on his behalf.
Inter are monitoring the situation, says La Gazzetta dello Sport, but Maguire represents at best a fallback option if the Solet deal falls through. His age, wage demands and the scale of the competition Inter are also tracking — Tarik Muharemović of Sassuolo is a further name on their list — place him well down the priority order.
United are unlikely to sanction a departure without a meaningful fee, given Maguire's recent contract extension and his continued role under Carrick.
