Speaking to DAZN after Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Sevilla, which left Valencia bottom of LaLiga with just one point from five games, the full-back once again pleaded for unity among supporters, echoing similar comments he made following an earlier loss to Real Betis, though this time in far more graphic terms.
"We are screwed, but we need them. If they want, at the end of the season they'll tell us to go to hell and beat us up. But now we have to be together, because our good is your good. We're going to sweat blood for this shirt. I've never been so happy to wear a shirt," Maffeo said.
Asked for his assessment of the defeat, Maffeo accepted his side carried responsibility for their situation but insisted the club needed to look inward rather than at outside noise.
"Everything is falling on the other side. Obviously we, if so much is happening, also have part of all the responsibility. But hey, the good thing is that football is fast, on Tuesday we have a final, a war, so we have to go out there like that," he said.
The defender also offered a strong show of support for head coach Carlos Corberan, whose position has come under increasing scrutiny.
"To me the coach seems like a great coach as a person and as a coach. There we go to death with him, that is, he is our captain. If I have to sink, I will sink with him, but with all my companions, and I am the first to sink. But hey, when you sink, you stay afloat too," Maffeo said.
Midfielder Pepelu struck a similarly stark tone after the result left Valencia with a single point from a possible 15.
"It is not an easy start. Things don't work out for us. Today we changed the system, but again the details, the set piece penalizes us. The second half we were not good. We have to be positive. I have already experienced this type of situation in Valencia and I am convinced that we will get it out again," Pepelu said.
Asked whether changes were needed in the dressing room, Pepelu was blunt.
"The locker room is screwed. But we are aware that those of us who are in there are the ones who have to reverse the situation. Nobody is going to come and solve it. We are going to try to lift the locker room, because on Tuesday we have another game. I'm optimistic," he said.
Valencia travel to Alaves on Tuesday looking for a first win of the season.
