Liverpool have secured the commitment of 15-year-old winger Josh Abe, with the teenage prodigy agreeing to sign a scholarship at the club's Academy despite serious interest from Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea.

Abe also had a tour of Real Madrid's training facilities earlier this year.

Abe, who has been at Liverpool since the age of four, had a standout season at Under-18 level before suffering a knee injury on England Under-16 international duty in March that ended his campaign prematurely. In the games he played, he scored eight goals in just ten UEFA Youth League North appearances β€” an extraordinary return for a player his age.

He also became the youngest player to appear for Liverpool in the UEFA Youth League when he came off the bench in the round of 32 defeat at MSK Ε½ilina in Slovakia in February, and has already trained with the first team at Kirkby.

The quality of those performances attracted genuine interest from three of England's biggest clubs, while his association with PLG Agency β€” recently acquired by Gersh and co-founded by Trent Alexander-Arnold's brother Tyler β€” facilitated the Real Madrid visit that underlined the scale of attention surrounding him.

Liverpool's determination to keep him proved decisive. Abe is among the latest intake of first-year scholars at the Academy and will sign his first professional contract when he turns 17 in July next year. With several senior squad members away at the World Cup this summer, he is also expected to travel with the first team on their pre-season tour to the United States.

Midfielder Erik Farkas, a 16-year-old Hungary-born player who has been representing England at youth level, is among the others to have signed scholarships alongside Abe.
