Liverpool are set to strengthen their recruitment department by appointing Flamengo chief scout Andrii Fedchenkov, who is expected to join the club at the start of 2027.

The 30-year-old Ukrainian is due to leave the Brazilian side when his contract expires at the end of December, with reports from Brazil confirming that he has agreed to move to Anfield.

Fedchenkov has been with Flamengo since February 2025 and has built a reputation as a data-driven, multilingual and highly organised recruitment specialist. His appointment forms part of a wider restructuring of Liverpool’s sporting operation.

Richard Hughes left his role as sporting director in early September to join Al-Hilal after just over two years at Liverpool. Julian Ward, who previously held the position, has since returned to take over the role.

Fedchenkov is expected to add experience and knowledge of the South American market to Liverpool’s recruitment operation, although his precise position within the club has not been confirmed.

His career has already taken him through several different football environments. Before joining Flamengo, he worked at Cardiff City, where he was involved in technical scouting, and also held a scouting role at PAOK in Greece.

He has further experience with Ukrainian clubs Shakhtar Donetsk and Karpaty Lviv, giving him a background across several leagues and recruitment systems.

At Flamengo, Fedchenkov has been responsible for identifying and assessing potential additions for both the first team and the club’s academy. His work in Brazil has helped raise his profile despite his relatively young age.

Liverpool have undergone changes across their recruitment structure in recent months. The departures of senior scouting figures following Hughes’ exit created a need to reinforce the department, while Ward’s return has provided a new leadership structure.

Fedchenkov’s arrival is expected to take place when the January transfer window opens, although the move is linked to the expiry of his Flamengo contract rather than an immediate switch.

The appointment would give Liverpool another specialist with international experience as they continue to develop their player-identification network under Ward.
