Trinder joined Liverpool from Wolves in July after a recruitment battle that also involved Tottenham and Arsenal, with Wolves making significant efforts to keep hold of one of the most highly rated young goalkeepers in the country.
The move required a tribunal to formally ratify his de-registration from Wolves before Liverpool could complete the signing, given his age.
Still only 14, Trinder has already made history at Wolves: he made his Premier League 2 debut for the club's Under-18s in March, aged just 14 years and 72 days, becoming the second-youngest goalkeeper ever to appear at that level, and kept a clean sheet in a 1-0 win — fittingly, against Liverpool's own youth side.
He began last season with Wolves' Under-15s before rapidly progressing through the Under-16s and into contention for the Under-18 squad, catching the eye of academy staff across the Premier League in the process.
Liverpool's Under-16s made light work of Manchester City on Saturday, winning 2-0 with Trinder starring between the posts on his first appearance in Liverpool colours. The club's academy department has been especially active at youth level this summer, with Trinder's arrival part of a broader push to recruit some of the country's most promising young talent, regardless of the more senior transfer business dominating headlines at first-team level.
Liverpool moved for Trinder alongside a similar swoop for Everton winger Josh Chigwada, with both players joining on scholarship terms and Liverpool paying only nominal compensation given their age.
Trinder is widely regarded within academy football circles as one of the best goalkeeping prospects of his generation, having represented England at Under-15 level while still technically Under-14 age himself.
Wolves had hoped to keep hold of him, but ultimately could not match the pathway Liverpool were able to offer, with the Reds' recruitment team having tracked his progress closely since his breakthrough performances during the 2025-26 season.
