Liverpool have begun exploring the possibility of signing Felix Nmecha, with a reported approach to the Borussia Dortmund midfielder’s representatives marking an early step in their recruitment work.

Sky Germany’s report says Liverpool have made contact with the player’s camp. The enquiry is understood to be exploratory rather than evidence that a formal bid is imminent.

Nmecha has become an important figure at Borussia Dortmund since joining from Wolfsburg in 2023. The 26-year-old Germany international has established himself in the Bundesliga side’s midfield and remains under contract until the summer of 2030.

Liverpool are assessing several potential targets as they consider how to strengthen their midfield. Bournemouth’s Alex Scott and Monaco’s Lamine Camara have also been linked with the club, meaning Nmecha is one of a number of options rather than an established first choice.

Manchester City, Manchester United and Newcastle United have previously been reported as interested in the midfielder, illustrating the level of attention his performances have attracted. Liverpool’s reported contact now adds another Premier League club to the picture.

Nmecha’s current form has also helped sustain the interest. He has scored twice in 11 appearances across competitions this season, starting nine of those matches, according to the figures in the original report. He has also scored three goals in 14 appearances for Germany.

Any potential deal would depend on Dortmund’s position as well as Liverpool’s recruitment priorities. Nmecha’s contract length gives the German club a strong negotiating position, while his importance to the squad makes a departure far from straightforward.

The reported enquiry does not mean a transfer is close, and Dortmund have no confirmed reason to prepare for an immediate sale. Liverpool are continuing to assess their options, with Scott and Camara among the other midfielders mentioned in the reporting.

For now, the most concrete development is contact with Nmecha’s representatives. Whether that leads to a formal approach will become clearer as Liverpool decide which targets to pursue ahead of a future transfer window.
