Liverpool have sent a scout to Valencia to assess Harvey Elliott’s loan spell and discuss the midfielder’s progress with the Spanish club as he seeks regular playing time.

Elliott joined Valencia on a season-long loan in September after being left out of new Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola’s plans. The move was intended to give the 23-year-old regular football, but his opportunities have so far been limited.

He has made five La Liga appearances, totalling 133 minutes, and has yet to start a league match. His longest appearance has lasted 36 minutes, although more of his playing time has come since the recent international break.

According to Marca, Liverpool scout Kiko Espinar travelled to Valencia this week and met Elliott and sporting director Braulio. The discussions covered the loan arrangement and the player’s role in the coming weeks. A possible early termination in January was reportedly ruled out.

Espinar also spoke with head coach Javier Aguirre to understand how Valencia intend to use the midfielder in upcoming fixtures. Liverpool are keen to see Elliott become part of the team’s plans rather than allow the loan to drift without regular involvement.

Fitness has been a major part of the story. Earlier reports in Spain described Elliott as short of the physical condition required, prompting a tailored programme to help him improve. He has since been working with a private nutritionist as part of efforts to regain fitness and sharpen his match readiness.

Aguirre has spoken positively about the player’s attitude. In comments reported by Super Deporte, he said: “I see him more refined. He is working with a private nutritionist. I’m delighted with his attitude. He has a lot of quality and he’s a Valencia player. You have to get the best possible out of it.”

The plan is reportedly to reintegrate Elliott gradually rather than demand an immediate jump to a full starting role. Liverpool’s visit suggests the parent club wants clarity over the development plan and the opportunities available to him.

Valencia’s upcoming schedule offers several chances for Elliott to build momentum, including their La Liga meeting with Villarreal and subsequent fixtures against Elche and Real Madrid. Liverpool will be hoping he can turn improved fitness into meaningful minutes and show why the loan was arranged in the first place.
