Robert Lewandowski has confirmed he is leaving Barcelona at the end of the season, bringing down the curtain on a four-year chapter in Catalonia that produced three La Liga titles, a Copa del Rey and a place in the club's all-time scoring records.

The 37-year-old Poland captain posted an emotional farewell message on Saturday morning, the day of the FA Cup final, as Barcelona simultaneously released their own tribute on social media.

"After four years full of challenges and hard work, it's time to move on. I leave with the feeling that the mission is complete. Four seasons, three championships."

"I will never forget the love I received from the fans from my very first days. Catalonia is my place on earth. Thank you to everyone I met along the way during these beautiful four years. A special thank you to President Laporta for giving me the chance to live the most incredible chapter of my career. Barca is back where it belongs."

Barcelona's response was brief and warm.

"Thank you, Robert Lewandowski, for every goal, every fight, and every magical moment wearing these colours. Culer forever."

Lewandowski arrived from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2022 for โ‚ฌ50 million and leaves as the 14th highest scorer in Barcelona's history with 119 goals in 191 appearances. His debut season was his most prolific individually โ€” he won the Pichichi Trophy as La Liga's leading scorer โ€” and his role in the 2024-25 domestic treble, in which he contributed 42 goals across all competitions, remains the pinnacle of his time at Camp Nou.

His final appearance at the ground is expected to come on Sunday against Real Betis, before Barcelona close the season away at Valencia. The farewell will have been building for days: he delivered a personal address to teammates and coaching staff at a training session earlier this week, telling them his four seasons in the Blaugrana shirt had been the most incredible chapter of his career.

On the question of what comes next, Lewandowski has spoken openly about considering a move to a lower-key league while he still has the physical condition to enjoy football. Saudi Arabia, where Al-Ahli and Al-Hilal have both made contact, and MLS, where Chicago Fire have expressed strong interest, are the frontrunners. Several European clubs, including Porto, made preliminary enquiries that have since gone quiet.

At 37, the finish line is visible. What he did at Barcelona in the four years before reaching it is unlikely to be forgotten quickly.
