Brandt, who has won 48 caps for Germany, left Dortmund this month when his contract expired, having joined the club from Bayer Leverkusen in 2019 for a fee of around €25m and lifted the DFB-Pokal during his time at Signal Iduna Park.
His representatives, including his father and agent Jurgen, have spent much of the summer assessing offers from across Europe, with a trip to Real Betis in late June ending in the Spanish club informing Brandt's camp that their priorities lay elsewhere. Leeds have since emerged as front-runners, with the player understood to be fascinated by the prospect of playing in the Premier League for the first time in his career.

Should a concrete proposal materialise from Serie A, however, Brandt would also be open to considering a switch to Italy, underlining the scale of interest in one of the more sought-after free agents on the market this summer.
Leeds United are aware they face genuine competition for his signature, with Daniel Farke's side keen to add further creative quality to a squad that secured Premier League survival with games to spare last season. Brandt scored 11 goals and provided four assists in 41 appearances for Dortmund last term, form that has kept his stock high across Europe despite his advancing years and ensured that, even without a transfer fee attached, clubs have needed to move quickly and decisively to convince him to commit to a new challenge.
Galatasaray, Fenerbahce and Roma have all previously been credited with interest in the playmaker at various points this summer, though none appear to have advanced as far as Leeds or Ajax in recent weeks.
