The move ties down one of the squad's key defenders just days before a Serie A meeting with Milan, the club that had shown the most interest in signing him this summer.
The Portuguese centre-back's previous deal had been due to expire on 30 June 2027, but the Salento club confirmed the extension in a statement, with Lecce's official social media channels marking the news simply: "TIAGO, signs, 2030."
Gabriel, born in 2004, has been strongly linked with several of Italian football's biggest clubs in recent months and remains a first-choice starter for head coach Eusebio Di Francesco even amid that speculation. Speaking to Lecce's official channels shortly before the announcement was made public, the defender said staying at the club meant a great deal to him personally.
"What does it mean to have stayed? For me it's special, and for my family too. You can't think about the transfer market, it's secondary, it doesn't depend on me, and that's why I always kept my head on Lecce — I'm too happy to have stayed," he said.
Gabriel arrived at Lecce from Portuguese side Estrela da Amadora in January 2025 for a fee of around €1.3 million, quickly establishing himself in the Salento side's defence following the departure of Federico Baschirotto to Cremonese.
His rise from a relatively low-cost signing to one of the club's most coveted assets reflects the recruitment strategy long associated with Lecce's sporting director, Pantaleo Corvino, who has a strong track record of identifying value in foreign markets before bigger clubs take notice — Morten Hjulmand and Patrick Dorgu, both since sold on for significant profit, are recent examples of the same approach.
Standing at 1.94 metres, Gabriel has developed into a commanding presence at the back for Lecce, making his mark both in the tackle and in the air since establishing himself as a regular starter last season.
With AC Milan among the clubs to have shown concrete interest before the extension was announced, tying him down until 2030 represents a significant statement of intent from a club that has built its recent recruitment success on precisely this kind of long-term planning.
