Michael Kayode has acknowledged interest from Juventus but made clear he has no intention of returning to Italy, saying the warmth he has found at Brentford makes the idea of leaving difficult to contemplate.

The 21-year-old right-back, speaking to Tuttosport, was characteristically frank on both his club and international future โ€” and there is an added layer of irony to the Juventus speculation.

Kayode actually spent four years in Juventus' youth academy between 2014 and 2018 before being released, going on to join Gozzano in the fourth tier of Italian football, and eventually making his name at Fiorentina before Brentford's permanent purchase for โ‚ฌ17 million last summer.

"Honestly, I'm not thinking about a return to Italy. I just want to do well, improve at Brentford and continue developing at this club."

He acknowledged the flattery of the attention without being drawn by it.

"Obviously it's always nice to receive attention from Juventus and any other top club, but I'm fully focused on the end of the season. I'm happy here. I've found a family in Brentford."

Kayode has made 42 appearances this season, scored once and provided two assists, and is the Italian player with the most Premier League appearances in the division this term. He also confirmed he will give priority to the Italy national team over Nigeria, despite being eligible for both.

"I will always give priority to Italy. Even at youth level, I grew up wearing the Azzurri shirt. The Azzurri shirt would be an enormous achievement, unthinkable until a few years ago, but I'll think about it in a few weeks."

Brentford sit eighth with two games remaining and remain in contention for a European place. A return to Italian football โ€” particularly to the club that once discarded him โ€” appears to be the last thing on Kayode's mind.
