The 23-year-old is due to undergo a medical ahead of putting pen to paper on a five-year contract, in a deal reported at around €4 million that will bring him back to English football after loan spells with AS Roma and, most recently, Le Havre, where he made 15 Ligue 1 appearances last season.
A defensive midfielder by trade, Gourna-Douath came through the academy at Saint-Étienne before moving to Austria at 18, a transfer reported at around €13 million that made him one of the most expensive teenage signings in Austrian football history at the time.
He helped Salzburg win a league title before struggling for regular game time, a factor behind his loan exits to Serie A and Ligue 1. The France Under-21 international has also featured 17 times in the Champions League, giving Jakirovic a midfielder with continental pedigree as Hull City prepare for their return to the Premier League. His arrival could be followed by a second midfield addition, with the club continuing talks over a move for Everton's Tim Iroegbunam.
That transfer business comes as Jakirovic, who unexpectedly guided Hull to promotion via the play-offs in his first season in charge, looks to tie down his own future at the club. He has a year left on his current deal but told BBC Radio Humberside he is confident fresh terms will follow.
"Everything is going well. I am waiting for an email! Everything is good and we are on the same page. I am waiting for the proposal so we will see," Jakirovic said.
"I have one year on my contract still, the club wants to sign a new contract which is two-plus-one or three years, we will see.
"Everything is fine with that. There are no issues about it."
He also played down any sense of pressure from owner Acun Ilicali, the outspoken Turkish businessman known for teasing Hull's transfer targets on social media.
"I never felt him putting any pressure on me. Nobody can put pressure on me other than myself. When I arrived here we spoke about relegation, stability, staying in the league. I thought we would be between 10th and 15th," Jakirovic said.
"We had a slow start last season but he put no pressure on me. In the end, we did something incredible - like a movie. Now, the first target is to stay in the league, but we know it is very difficult. I don't want to just participate, I want to win games."
