Junior Kroupi's 39th-minute strike gave Bournemouth the lead and looked set to deliver victory until Erling Haaland equalised in the 95th minute in Manchester City's desperate attempt to keep their title hopes alive. The draw confirmed Arsenal as champions but also secured Bournemouth a minimum of Europa League football next season, with the possibility of Champions League qualification still alive depending on Sunday's result at Nottingham Forest.
Iraola, who is leaving the club at the end of the season when his contract expires, was in a reflective mood.
"What a night it has been. I think I've enjoyed all the night, all the game. Probably the only thing you would change is the result because I really think we should have won the game 2-0 or 3-0 probably, but it doesn't change so much over our position in terms of European qualification.
"We have the Europa League already guaranteed and even a small chance to fight for the Champions League until the end."
He praised his squad's execution of the game plan against one of the Premier League's most demanding opponents.
"I think we played so well today. So, so well. On the ball, without the ball. Obviously there are moments against City always that they are going to push you and they are going to have their chances. But even during the game, it's a game where there is a lot to play for and you have some nerves, but I was enjoying the game."
The draw extended Bournemouth's unbeaten run to 17 top-flight matches, equalling the club's best ever in-season run set in 1981-82. It also matched their record Premier League points haul of 56 and confirmed their highest ever finish in the English football pyramid.
Iraola joined the club in 2023 from Rayo Vallecano and departs having transformed Bournemouth from a side scrambling for survival into one that will play in Europe next season for the first time in their history.
