Inter Milan are preparing to make a move for AS Roma centre-back Gianluca Mancini if the 30-year-old fails to agree a contract extension at the Giallorossi before the summer window opens.

Mancini has one year remaining on his current deal and AS Roma have been open to selling him in previous windows, though they held firm last summer after failing to agree on a replacement. With his contract now entering its final year, Inter Milan's position as a suitor has become considerably stronger.

The Italy international joined AS Roma from Atalanta in the summer of 2019 β€” initially on loan before the move was made permanent β€” and has developed into one of the Giallorossi's most consistent performers. His most recent campaign was arguably his best in Rome, with several important goals contributing to Roma's season under head coach Gian Piero Gasperini.

Inter are seeking defensive reinforcements ahead of their Champions League campaign and are also tracking Udinese centre-back Oumar Solet, 26, whose contract similarly expires next summer. Evan Ndicka, 26, has previously been linked with the Milan club and remains a consideration.

Whether Inter pursue Mancini, Solet or a combination of targets will depend on incoming transfer income and Gasperini's priorities in rebuilding a Roma squad that has undergone significant structural change this summer.
