Bayern Munich have not abandoned their interest in Liverpool youngster Rio Ngumoha after failing to sign the winger during the summer transfer window.

The German champions were prepared to pursue the 18-year-old, who moved from Chelsea to Liverpool in 2024 and was promoted to the first-team squad in the summer of 2025. Ngumoha has already made 43 senior competitive appearances, including 17 starts.

Liverpool rejected Bayern's approach before the current season, but the Bundesliga club are understood to have kept the teenager on their list of possible attacking reinforcements.

Christian Falk, football editor at Bild, reported that Bayern had been willing to pay €70 million for Ngumoha. The club had been searching for options on the left wing and had also made contact with the player's camp.

“Bayern Munich were prepared to pay 70 million euros for Rio Ngumoha. As is known, Bayern have been looking intensively for alternatives on the left wing. We talked about Bradley Barcola, with whom they had contact, and they were also in contact with a young talent from Liverpool,” Falk wrote.

“There were talks – his brother spoke with FC Bayern – but the situation was complicated for Bayern Munich. It was unclear whether Liverpool would sell him or not.”

Falk added that Bayern's decision-makers still regard Ngumoha as an excellent option and that discussions with his representatives have continued.

“Bayern are still talking to Ngumoha's camp, and he could become an option for the summer,” he said.

Bayern ultimately pursued a different route, with Ismael Saibari becoming the comparatively easier deal to complete. However, Ngumoha remains on their wish list as they continue to assess possibilities for the left side of their attack.

Liverpool are also working to secure the youngster's future. His current contract runs until the summer of 2028, but the club are reportedly seeking an agreement to extend it. A report at the end of October suggested that Liverpool were closing in on a deal with the teenager.

Bayern's interest is not limited to Ngumoha. Falk also reported that the club are following Norway international Antonio Nusa, who plays for RB Leipzig. Sporting director Max Eberl is said to be a strong admirer, with Nusa's valuation reportedly between €50 million and €60 million.

For now, Bayern Munich's pursuit of Ngumoha remains a possibility for a future window rather than an imminent transfer, with Liverpool holding a strong contractual position.
