Reports from Spain and Argentina have revived talk of Barcelona's long-standing admiration for Lautaro Martínez, with some outlets in Argentina going as far as suggesting an offer in the region of €100m could be on the way once Julián Álvarez's move to the club fell through.
Barcelona have been chasing a new centre-forward all summer after Robert Lewandowski's departure, and with Atlético Madrid refusing to budge on Álvarez, attention appears to be shifting towards alternative targets, with Lautaro reportedly rising up the list.
Inter Milan's position, however, has not shifted at all. No offer for Lautaro has been received, and sources close to the club say that even if one arrives, the intention would be to reject it outright.
Only a genuinely extraordinary proposal — something running into nine figures — might prompt a rethink, but as things stand the club has made clear it has no interest in negotiating.
With Serie A's opening weekend now upon them, Inter's stance leaves little room for ambiguity: Lautaro remains the squad's most important player, and the club wants to keep it that way heading into the new season.
Barcelona's interest in the Argentina captain is not new — the club made contact over a possible move as far back as 2020, with Lionel Messi said to have personally endorsed him as a potential successor to Luis Suárez at the time, though the two clubs never came close to agreeing a fee.
That history, combined with the scale of the figure now being discussed in Argentine media, has been enough to unsettle some supporters in Milan even without a formal approach on the table.
Since that period, Lautaro has gone on to become Inter's captain and one of the club's all-time leading marksmen, and his current contract no longer carries the release clause that once made a departure structurally straightforward.
