The club has held encouraging early discussions over a move, according to Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg.
Nothing is close to concluded: Plettenberg's report describes positive contact with Kömür's representatives but no club-to-club negotiations yet, with Augsburg merely informed of Hull's interest rather than engaged in talks.
That could prove an obstacle in itself — the 21-year-old signed a contract extension through June 2029 only a year ago, giving the Bundesliga club little pressure to sell, and Augsburg already turned down two bids from Beşiktaş in January, the second reportedly worth €12 million.
A Dachau native who joined Augsburg's academy in 2019 and began training with the first team at 16, Kömür made his Bundesliga debut in April 2024 and scored on his first senior start against Bayer Leverkusen the same month.
He has gone on to make more than 50 top-flight appearances, including a memorable role in Augsburg's shock win at Bayern Munich in January, when he came off the bench to set up the winning goal. Turkish and Belgian clubs had also shown interest before Hull's approach emerged.
The move would fit a busy summer of recruitment at Hull, who face Manchester United at the MKM Stadium on the opening weekend of their first Premier League season since relegation in 2017. The club are also said to be pursuing Rayo Vallecano defender Nobel Mendy as they continue building a squad they hope can compete at the higher level, with Kömür valued at around €12 million.
Kömür's numbers cooled somewhat after a hot start to last season under then-manager Sandro Wagner, who was sacked mid-campaign, with his role becoming more sporadic under successor Manuel Baum as Augsburg avoided relegation and finished ninth. Even so, his combination of senior Bundesliga experience and Germany Under-21 international pedigree at just 21 makes him an attractive target for a newly promoted Premier League club looking to add creativity in midfield without competing at the very top of the market.
