Hoeness lets slip Laimer deal as Bayern await final signature

Bayern Munich

Konrad Laimer is on the verge of signing a contract extension at Bayern Munich, with honorary president Uli Hoeness effectively confirming the deal is done — before Sport1 clarified that only the final signature is outstanding.

Speaking at a Volksbank Raiffeisenbank event in Altötting, Hoeness told those in attendance: "Konrad Laimer has signed."

Sport1, which initially reported the announcement, subsequently updated the article, stating that the two parties are agreed on all key points and the signature alone remains.

The deal has been eight months in the making. Salary was the persistent sticking point: Laimer's camp initially sought figures reported to be in the range of €15 million per season, while Bayern Munich's position was considerably lower. Hoeness waded in publicly at one point, pointedly noting that Laimer "is not Maradona" — a comment that caused irritation but did not derail the process.

What ultimately resolved the impasse is an agreement understood to be in the region of €12 million gross per year, a significant increase on his current salary of around €9 million. The new contract is expected to extend his stay well beyond his current deal's expiry in 2027.

The 29-year-old can operate at right-back, left-back and in central midfield. He made 47 appearances last season, scoring three goals and providing 13 assists. He joined from RB Leipzig on a free transfer in 2023 and has made 136 appearances for the Bavarian club.

Laimer is currently at the World Cup with Austria, who face Algeria in their final group game needing a win to progress from Group J. He started both of Austria's opening fixtures.

Once Austria's involvement concludes, Laimer is expected to return to Munich to formalise the paperwork. The announcement will close one of the more protracted contract sagas of the summer and allow Bayern to plan with certainty at right-back.
