The Manchester City striker, who was watching Saturday's final in Budapest, uploaded the image to his Instagram story with no accompanying caption. The timing left little to interpretation.
Haaland's running antagonism with Arsenal, and specifically with Brazilian centre-back Gabriel, has been one of the recurring subplots of recent Premier League seasons. In 2024 he threw a ball at the defender during a match, and in the return fixture Gabriel celebrated in Haaland's face after City conceded.
As recently as last month, the pair clashed again during City's 2-1 win at the Emirates Stadium.
Haaland also famously told Mikel Arteta to "stay humble" following a contentious fixture two seasons ago — a remark that Arsenal fans have not forgotten.
The irony of Saturday's ending was not lost on those watching. Gabriel, who had been outstanding throughout the final and across the Champions League campaign, stepped up to take the fourth penalty for Arsenal in the shootout and sent it blazing over the bar — handing PSG their second consecutive European title.
Eberechi Eze had also missed in the shootout, leaving Arsenal heartbroken after the match finished 1-1 following extra time, with Kai Havertz and Ousmane Dembélé having scored the goals in normal time.
Haaland's post arrived as supporters were still processing the result. It was not the first time he had responded publicly to Arsenal's misfortune, and it is unlikely to be the last. The rivalry between the two clubs — and between the Norwegian and Gabriel in particular — shows no sign of cooling ahead of next season.
