Pep Guardiola has given the strongest indication yet that he intends to see out the remaining year of his Manchester City contract, saying the environment at the club gives him energy he cannot imagine existing elsewhere.

Speaking to The Guardian ahead of Monday's Premier League trip to Everton, the 55-year-old pushed back against months of speculation suggesting he could leave the Etihad Stadium in the summer.

Manchester City are contracted to him until 2027. Reports linking Enzo Maresca as a potential successor have been a recurring backdrop to a season in which City โ€” despite falling behind Arsenal โ€” remain in contention for the Premier League title, Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

Guardiola described what keeps him at the club with characteristic warmth.

"I wouldn't be here for 10 years, even with good titles, if I didn't have an incredible environment. Now I feel more โ€” I don't know, happy, not happy, but still have incredible energy, I'm still so good. Coming here to work on my day off."

He spoke specifically about the culture built inside the club and what it signals to those who leave and return.

"I love when Gundo came back from Barcelona and said: 'Man City is top, top'. When that happens you know we are on the right track. That is why we have consistently been in the Champions League for the last 12, 13, 14 years. That is why we always compete for titles โ€” because they are consistent around tactics, systems, players, coaches. It is like a bubble that makes people feel good."

City go into Monday's Everton fixture six points behind Arsenal in the table, but with two games in hand. Winning both of those would draw the race level heading into the final weeks of the season.

The title race hinges on City's form at home against Nottingham Forest and Sunderland in the coming days, with Arsenal's Champions League semi-final commitments adding an element of fixture congestion to the equation.

City superfan Liam Gallagher also dismissed speculation about Guardiola's exit over the weekend, posting on social media that he had spoken to the manager personally and been told the reports were false.

Guardiola did not address the post directly but his interview with The Guardian carried the same message โ€” he is engaged, energised and not going anywhere.
