The 40-year-old remains without a club, and the prospect of joining Getafe has moved beyond speculation following Torres’ comments on Radio Nacional de España’s Tablero Deportivo. The president was asked directly whether he would sign Ramos if the opportunity arose.
“Yes,” Torres replied, before confirming that discussions had already taken place with the player’s camp.
“His agent, his brother, has been speaking with me,” he said.
The comments indicate that Getafe have explored the possibility of bringing the former Real Madrid captain to the Coliseum. However, Torres was careful to stress that a deal is not currently at the top of the club’s list of priorities.
José Bordalás wants reinforcements in other areas, particularly out wide, while Getafe already have six centre-backs in their squad.
“We have six centre-backs. It wasn’t a position the manager needed right now. He wanted wingers, but there is still time,” Torres explained.
Nevertheless, Ramos remains under consideration, with the president making clear that the club have not abandoned the idea.
“He is on the list of possible signings,” Torres said.
He also suggested that the timing of any move could depend on how Getafe’s other business develops. If the club decide against adding a defender before the current window closes, January could provide another opportunity.
“Maybe, if not now, in January, if we were to bring in a centre-back. But we have that position well covered,” Torres said.
Getafe’s interest comes shortly after the club completed the signing of Dani Carvajal, another former Real Madrid stalwart. The 34-year-old joined after leaving the Bernabéu and represents an ambitious addition for a side seeking to strengthen its squad with experienced players.
Torres is also working on a possible move for Jadon Sancho, the England international winger who is reported to be available as a free agent. That pursuit appears more closely aligned with Bordalás’ immediate priorities, given the manager’s desire to add options in wide areas.
Ramos would bring a different profile. A former Real Madrid and Spain captain, he has spent much of his career at the highest level and could offer considerable experience to Getafe’s defensive group.
For now, however, there is no confirmed agreement. Torres’ comments establish that contact has taken place and that Getafe are open to the possibility, but the club’s existing defensive options mean a move is far from guaranteed.
With Carvajal already on board and Sancho also being considered, Getafe’s transfer plans could yet produce another high-profile name. Ramos remains a possibility, although a decision may have to wait until the club’s more pressing needs are addressed.
