The Atlético Madrid hierarchy are in no rush to make a decision on Jonathan David’s future, with Mateu Alemany confirming that the club have until June to consider their purchase option for the Juventus loanee.

Speaking to DAZN before Atletico Madrid’s meeting with Espanyol, Alemany played down the prospect of an immediate announcement, stressing that the club’s packed schedule means their attention must remain on the football.

“Really, there is no news. We agreed an option to buy with Juventus that we can exercise in June. There is enough time. We are happy and he is happy with us,” he said.

“There is enough time and right now we are focused on what we are doing, with so many competitions and a match every three days, and on concentrating on today’s game.”

David joined Atlético on loan from Juventus in September, with the agreement including an option to make the move permanent. His performances have given the Spanish club plenty to consider, but Alemany made clear that the decision does not need to be rushed.

The Canadian forward’s future is not the only matter attracting attention at the Metropolitano, with Marc Pubill’s development also becoming a significant talking point.

Alemany stopped short of confirming any plans regarding a new contract for the defender, but his comments offered a clear indication of how highly the club regard him.

“I won’t talk about anyone in particular. Marc has had spectacular development, becoming a world champion. We are very happy with him and hope he will be with us for many years,” Alemany said.

The executive indicated that Atlético continually assess their players’ performances when considering their futures, rather than making decisions in isolation.

His praise for Pubill reflects the defender’s growing standing within the squad, with the club keen to retain players who continue to develop and contribute to the team.

Alemany also reflected on his first year at Atlético, identifying the atmosphere inside the dressing room as one of the factors behind the team’s performances.

“One of the things I have always highlighted since arriving at Atlético a year ago is the atmosphere I found in the dressing room. It is one of the keys to performance,” he said.

That environment is particularly important for a club competing across several competitions, with the demands of a match every three days leaving little time for recovery or preparation.

For now, Atlético are keeping their focus on the immediate challenge rather than allowing contract discussions to dominate the agenda. David’s future can be addressed in the months ahead, while Pubill’s progress has already convinced the club that he could have a long-term role to play.
