Enzo Fernández has insisted that Manchester City's players are focusing on football rather than becoming consumed by the club's ongoing financial case, which remains subject to an appeal.

The midfielder, who joined City from Chelsea in September, was asked about the possibility of repercussions surrounding the Premier League's ruling and the reaction the team might encounter at opposition grounds.

Fernández made clear that he regards the matter as one for the club's leadership rather than the playing squad.

“These are questions that the club handles and on which we, as players, cannot intervene very much. We try to concentrate on training, matches and winning.

“Obviously, we are informed about what is happening, but it would make no sense for us to exhaust ourselves over something that does not depend on us,” he told La Nación.

The comments come after an independent commission found Manchester City guilty of breaches of Premier League financial rules relating to the period between 2009 and 2018. The findings covered financial reporting, commercial arrangements and the club's obligations to cooperate with the league's investigation.

Manchester City have denied wrongdoing and lodged an appeal against the decision. The outcome remains unresolved, leaving the club waiting to learn whether the findings will be upheld or changed.

The case has attracted considerable attention because of the potential consequences for City and the wider Premier League. However, Fernández's remarks indicate that the uncertainty has not changed his stated approach to his new role.

The Argentina international arrived at the Etihad Stadium in a major transfer from Chelsea, ending a three-and-a-half-year spell at Stamford Bridge. The move reunited him with manager Enzo Maresca, who had previously worked with him at Chelsea.

City are pursuing domestic and European honours this season, and Fernández is expected to play a significant role in the midfield as he settles into the team.

His priority, as he explained, is to contribute on the pitch while those responsible for the club's legal and regulatory affairs manage the case.

The appeal process means that the situation is not yet settled. Until a final outcome is reached, City will continue to face scrutiny over the commission's findings, while the players attempt to keep their attention on results and the demands of the season.
