Getafe president Ángel Torres confirmed the extension on Wednesday with an official announcement. Torres had been seeking to secure Bordalás's future since the summer of 2025, but the manager preferred to wait until the end of the season before committing.
The delay was partly explained by an offer that had been on the table from Sevilla — or more precisely, from the investment group led by Sergio Ramos that had been attempting to acquire the Andalusian club. Had that takeover completed, Bordalás was understood to be among their first choices for head coach. When the deal stalled and ultimately broke down, the manager's calculus changed.
With the Sevilla option gone, Bordalás turned his attention back to Getafe and moved quickly. Torres, who had a fallback arrangement agreed with Swiss manager Fabio Celestini for several months in case a contract could not be struck, found that arrangement was no longer needed.
Bordalás has been associated with Getafe for the entirety of his managerial career at the highest level, joining the club for his first stint in September 2016. Under his stewardship the club won promotion to LaLiga, became genuine top-half contenders and twice threatened European football before the European dream became a reality. He left for Valencia in 2021 but returned to the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez in the summer of 2022.
This season he guided Getafe to seventh place and secured a spot in the UEFA Conference League — only the second European campaign in the club's history, following the 2019-20 Europa League adventure in which Getafe beat Ajax before falling to Inter Milan.
Bordalás will now lead the club in European competition for the second time. After nine seasons combined, there is nowhere that feels more like his territory than the Coliseum.
