The club, currently sitting on two points from their opening two Primeira Liga fixtures, confirmed on its official website that a consortium led by investment groups ADvantage and LEAD, with support from the Cologne-based KI Group, has completed the acquisition of a 90 per cent stake in a deal worth a reported €40million — a record sale for a Portuguese football SAD.
The four former Bayern Munich team-mates form part of the new ownership group, joining an investor base that combines experience in sport, investment and technology. New club president Johannes Mösmang, who spent a decade working in Bayern's professional players department before taking on the role, succeeds outgoing president Paulo Lopo.
"Estrela da Amadora is a historic Portuguese football club, with deep roots in Amadora, a very unique identity and a passionate community," Mösmang said.
"It is also a club with a very special characteristic: ownership of its own stadium. We are very motivated to begin this new chapter and build, in a disciplined and sustainable way, a project that the fans, the community and everyone who is part of Estrela can be proud of."
Of the four footballers involved, only Lucas Hernández remains an active professional player, currently at Paris Saint-Germain. Thomas Müller has since moved to Major League Soccer with Vancouver Whitecaps, Yann Sommer joined Club Brugge this summer, and Mats Hummels has retired from playing altogether.
All four were team-mates at Bayern at various points across the past decade, giving the new ownership group a shared football background even as their individual careers have since taken very different paths.
Estrela da Amadora, based in a suburb of Lisbon, returned to the Primeira Liga in 2023 after a turbulent history that included financial insolvency and multiple relaunches, and finished 15th of 18 teams last season.
The club's ownership of its own stadium was highlighted by Mösmang as a distinctive asset underpinning the new investors' long-term ambitions, offering a rare degree of infrastructure control for a club of its size in Portuguese football.
