The 20-year-old Dane won a historic double at the Liga Portugal annual awards on Saturday, voted Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year by coaches and captains across the top flight โ the first player in the history of the competition to claim both prizes in the same season. He received 43 per cent of the vote for the senior award.
Froholdt featured in all 34 league matches for Porto this season, starting 31, and accumulated more minutes than any other outfield player at the club. He contributed eight goals and six assists across all competitions as Porto won their 31st Primeira Liga title.
Speaking to A Bola, the midfielder was clear about his intentions despite the mounting speculation from England.
"I would love to stay here. I have a long contract and I want to fight for another title, and I also want to play in the biggest tournament in Europe. I really want that."
Froholdt joined Porto from FC Copenhagen last summer for 20 million euros plus bonuses, with a release clause of 85 million euros built into his contract running until 2030. Porto are not actively looking to sell and manager Francesco Farioli considers him central to the club's plans for next season.
Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle United have all monitored him closely without yet making a formal approach, according to Bold and A Bola. Clubs from Spain, Italy and Germany are also tracking his progress. Copenhagen retain a 10 per cent sell-on clause from the original transfer, meaning any future move at the release clause figure would generate a windfall of around 8.5 million euros for his former club.
