JJ Gabriel’s expected departure from Manchester United has yet to be resolved, despite the young forward turning 16 and attracting interest from several of Europe’s leading clubs.

The Brazilian-born prospect had been expected to leave Old Trafford after his representatives sought a way out of the club. He has since been linked with a number of potential destinations, with Bayern Munich among the clubs reportedly dropping out of the running.

Real Madrid are now being presented as the leading contenders, although the situation remains open. Barcelona have reportedly decided against entering a major financial battle for the teenager, while Paris Saint-Germain’s proposal has also been rejected by the player, according to the reports.

That would leave the Spanish champions in a favourable position, but there is no confirmed agreement and Gabriel’s next move has not been announced.

The youngster has attracted considerable attention after developing into one of the most highly regarded prospects in Manchester United’s academy. His age is an important factor in the situation, with his 16th birthday allowing him to sign a professional contract with a European club.

Gabriel and his family have been considering their options since requesting his departure from United. Sky Sports reported earlier in October that Real Madrid and Barcelona retained strong interest, while PSG and Bayern were also monitoring developments.

The player has reportedly been training individually in Castelldefels as the process continues, with his representatives weighing up the opportunities available to him.

Financial expectations could prove significant in determining where he ends up. Reports have suggested that a substantial contract would be required to secure his signature, although the figures circulating around the negotiations have not been confirmed by the clubs involved.

For United, losing a player of Gabriel’s potential would represent a setback, particularly given the attention he has attracted from some of the biggest teams in Europe.

Real Madrid may currently have the advantage, but the situation is not settled. With Barcelona previously involved and other major clubs having expressed interest, the coming weeks should provide a clearer indication of where the teenager intends to continue his development.
