Kicker reports a deal is in place between Frankfurt and Al Ittihad for Doan, with only minor details left to finalise.
The Saudi club will pay around €17m for the Japan international, who has 69 caps for his country - a loss of roughly €4m for Frankfurt given they paid Freiburg €21m for him only last year. The sale is driven largely by financial necessity, with the German club in need of fresh income despite having originally planned for Doan, a left-footer, to be a regular starter this season. He is reported to have been offered wages worth €9m net annually in Saudi Arabia.
At the same time, Eintracht Frankfurt are working to bring back a familiar face.
Bild reports talks with Nottingham Forest over Kalimuendo have intensified ahead of Tuesday's deadline, with the German club hoping to re-sign the 24-year-old Frenchman, who scored six goals during a loan spell at Frankfurt in the second half of last season.
Forest boss Oliver Glasner - who has been the subject of extensive coverage in these pages over his own summer rebuild at the City Ground - is understood to have already indicated Kalimuendo could leave, with the striker left out of Forest's squad for last weekend's 2-2 draw at Liverpool.
A loan with an option or obligation to buy is being floated as the likely structure, reflecting Frankfurt's continued need to generate transfer income even as they look to strengthen. Kalimuendo himself has made clear he wants to return to Frankfurt, giving the move genuine momentum with barely 24 hours left before the window shuts.
The two deals, taken together, illustrate the balancing act facing Frankfurt's recruitment department in the closing hours of the summer: raising funds through Doan's sale while simultaneously trying to reinvest in proven quality via Kalimuendo, whose brief loan spell last season left a clear impression on both the club and its supporters.
Should the Kalimuendo deal go through, it would give head coach Adi Hütter a familiar and productive attacking option to call upon immediately, offsetting at least part of the goal threat lost with Doan's departure to Saudi Arabia.
