Barcelona returned from the international break with an eighth consecutive league victory, matching the club’s best start to a season in the competition. Gordon opened the scoring in the second minute, Gabriel Jesus doubled the lead before half-time and Koundé completed the result in the 73rd minute.
Flick was pleased with the early breakthrough against a Getafe side he regards as one of the league’s strongest defensive teams.
“It was very important to score early today. It gave us confidence,” the Barcelona coach said. “It wasn’t easy after three weeks away. Getafe defend very well, but in the end we controlled the game and the opponent.”
He also praised Gordon’s contribution, pointing to the winger’s pace, ball control and ability to create opportunities. Flick said the England international had been performing well even before scoring.
Barcelona’s manager was equally pleased with Lamine Yamal’s attitude, although he acknowledged the need to manage the young forward’s workload. Flick said Yamal had wanted to continue playing and had created more opportunities after the interval.
The coach also highlighted Jules Koundé’s professionalism and the importance of squad depth, stressing that every player must accept selection decisions for the benefit of the team.
“The important thing is the team,” Flick said. “It is not about the coach or the player.”
Gabriel Jesus also earned praise after scoring in his first Barcelona start. Flick described the Brazilian as a different type of player to Raphinha but highlighted his finishing and the need for every attacker to contribute defensively.
Getafe coach José Bordalás was furious with his team’s performance, saying they had failed to show the identity expected of them.
“I am angry because I don’t think we competed as we should have,” Bordalás said. “We did not recognise ourselves as a team, starting with the goal in the second minute. Those were serious mistakes we cannot afford.”
Bordalás felt Barcelona’s first two goals left his side with too much to do, while the third settled the contest after Getafe had struggled to regain control.
He also acknowledged Yamal’s exceptional ability, describing the teenager as a fantastic player who could develop further and potentially reach the level required to win the Ballon d’Or.
Flick, meanwhile, refused to focus on records, insisting Barcelona’s priority was winning trophies. Their attention now turns to Galatasaray, with the coach saying his players must maintain their intensity while continuing to improve their possession and decision-making.
Barcelona remain unbeaten in the league, while Getafe must respond after a defeat their manager felt exposed serious shortcomings.
