Asked directly about the club's determination to sign a new number nine, with reports suggesting the pursuit of Álvarez is now an all-or-nothing proposition, Flick declined to add fuel to the speculation but made clear he was aligned with the club's leadership.
"I think the president was clear and Deco and I agree with him," he said, when pressed on whether it was "Julián or nobody."
He added: "I don't want to talk about the subject. I understand the situation at the club, some very good signings have been made. The club has to think about the future, and as a coach I want more and more. I have total confidence in my squad, and we'll have to find solutions.
"The quality is enormous. Deco is doing a great job. We're looking at the future, at what's best now and for the next three to five years. We want stability for the club."
On Balde, whose proposed move away from Camp Nou has dominated headlines in recent days, Flick was measured but pointed.
"He's part of the squad, whether he plays or not we'll decide tomorrow. The important thing is that he's fully committed, and he is. He's only 22, he's young and has great potential. He must keep improving. He's one of the La Masia players, and they all carry Barça's colours in their heart. But others from La Masia are arriving who also want to play. They have to be committed and give everything for Barça," he said.
Flick also addressed the club's newly arrived goalkeeper.
"We've talked about the situation with the number one, and it's good to have experienced goalkeepers for the coming years. We have Szczęsny. We'll have to wait to make a decision," he said of Livaković's role.
On Lamine Yamal, who returned from a short pre-season and played 60 minutes in the win over Elche despite not being at his sharpest, Flick struck a protective tone.
"He had some headaches... but he's a genius. He had three weeks of holiday and has now trained for only a few days and couldn't be at his maximum level. We need to help him recover his top level. I'm happy he played 60 minutes and was involved in the first two goals against Elche. He gave us options for changes. He contributed a lot in the match, and he's working well. He's progressing. We need him. He's incredible," Flick said.
The head coach confirmed Rodri is in line for his first involvement of the new season.
"The plan is for him to play some minutes against Athletic Club," he said, adding that the partnership with Pedri would be central to Barcelona's control of matches going forward given the balls lost against Elche.
