"It's been incredible. I had the chance to visit the city and I liked it. The beach was one of the few things I already knew about, and it was great," said the 21-year-old, who joins on loan from Bayer Leverkusen as Celta's third signing of the summer, alongside Aleix Febas and Javi Galán, with the club also chasing a deal for Turkey goalkeeper Altay Bayindir to further reshape the squad under Claudio Giráldez.
Despite his youth, Faye has already played in several countries on his path to Spain, having moved from Senegalese academy Diambars to Sweden's BK Häcken in 2023, spent a loan year at Örgryte, then signed for Bayer Leverkusen last year before a season-long loan at Ligue 1 side Lorient, where he made 17 league appearances.
"I'm gaining experience and I've learned a lot in all of them. I try to bring that experience to Celta. I'm young, you could say I'm powerful, and I'll try to bring some power to the team, some quality, because I know there's a lot of courage in this squad. It's hard to talk about myself, but I'd say I'm humble, cheerful and open," he said.
A conversation with head coach Giráldez proved decisive in his decision to join.
"I had the chance to speak with the coach and his assistant, and they convinced me. They told me about the project and I liked it," Faye explained, before setting out ambitious targets for the season: "Playing in LaLiga, and why not qualifying for the Champions League."
Standing 1.91m tall and known for his left-footed passing range as much as his physical presence, Faye will be officially unveiled at 1:30pm on Tuesday, after which he will report to Giráldez and travel with the squad to Italy for pre-season.
