The 38-year-old reflected on a remarkable two-year journey that has taken a newly promoted Serie A club to the edge of Champions League qualification.
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Fàbregas described the English top flight as the standard by which he measures everything in football.
"The Premier League is the best league in the world. I felt it as a player, I feel it as a coach and as a fan. But Mourinho once told me at Chelsea: I still have 30 years of a career. So I could stay at Como for another 10 years and go to the Premier League in 12, 15 years. Football is unpredictable, it changes in a second. One day you're the best, the next you're the worst. So let's enjoy the moment."
He spoke with similar directness about the scope of his role at Como, which extends well beyond tactics and team selection. He has full control over footballing decisions, oversees recruitment and has even been involved in the physical design of the club's facilities.
"I take all the sporting decisions. The sporting director is by my side every day and we see football the same way. For signings we work with data, we have our scouts, but in the end it has to be someone I believe in, players I'm convinced by. I'm happy and lucky to have a president who believes in me and lets me make football decisions. That is fundamental for me."
He described redesigning the gym in collaboration with architects — placing a glass wall facing the pitch, an idea he took directly from his time working under Arsène Wenger at Arsenal — and widening the playing surface at the stadium to accommodate Como's possession-based style.
"I told them we needed a bigger pitch as a team that wants to have the ball. So I widened it. For some people it's a stupid thing, but a metre can make a difference when you try to use the width."
Como are pushing for a historic first Champions League qualification in just their second season back in the top flight, sitting within three points of a European berth with three matches remaining. The arrival of Nico Paz, recalled by Real Madrid from his loan, will be their most significant summer challenge to navigate.
