The Italian goalkeeper joined City from Paris Saint-Germain at the end of last summer, replacing long-serving number one Ederson between the posts. City have also brought in Enzo Fernández and Elliot Anderson during this summer's transfer window as part of a wider squad overhaul under Enzo Maresca, who succeeded Pep Guardiola in the close season.
That turnover has led many to label this a rebuilding year for the club, a characterisation Donnarumma firmly rejects.
"I don't really like the word transition," Donnarumma told Sky Sports. "The club's goal is to win, this team's goal is to win. We will really do everything we can to achieve that."
Manchester City won the Manchester derby at the weekend, beating rivals United 1-0 despite Phil Foden's early red card leaving them a man light for the majority of the match. Donnarumma was full of praise for how his teammates handled the occasion.
"I loved my teammates' effort, it was magnificent," he said. "The capacity to manage to stay in the game and handle difficult moments - no one can take that away from us. We will do everything for this shirt, for this club that gives us so much and where we get fantastic support. There's a fantastic history here and we have to give a lot back to it."
City finished as runners-up in the Premier League last season, and Donnarumma's comments reflect a determination among the squad to close the gap after their opening weeks of the new campaign.
Having won all four of their league matches so far, City sit level on points with leaders Arsenal heading into the next round of fixtures, a start that suggests any talk of transition may prove premature regardless of the summer's upheaval in personnel.
Donnarumma's own performances have played a part in that start, with the goalkeeper making a string of important saves during the derby win to help City hold on with 10 men. His arrival was seen as a statement of intent from the club's hierarchy, bringing in a proven winner with Champions League and international pedigree to anchor a defence that has undergone significant change over the past two transfer windows.
