Roman Dixon has bid farewell to Everton after 10 years in the club's academy, posting a heartfelt message on Instagram as a difficult chapter defined by injury draws to a close.

The 21-year-old right-back made his Premier League debut for the club in a 4-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur in the 2024/25 season โ€” a surprise call-up by then-manager Sean Dyche after Ashley Young was sent off in the opening day defeat to Brighton and both Nathan Patterson and Seamus Coleman were injured.

He subsequently came off the bench in the Carabao Cup win over Doncaster Rovers before injuries curtailed his progress.

Last season Dixon recovered from a serious injury sustained before a planned loan to Stockport County, eventually joining the League One side in January and making seven appearances as they fell short of promotion, losing to Bolton Wanderers in the playoff final.

Everton confirmed this month that they would not offer an extension. Dixon wrote on Instagram: "After 10 unforgettable years, the time has come to move on.

"Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey โ€” the staff, coaches, medical team, my teammates, and especially the fans. Your support has never gone unnoticed.

"It's been an incredible chapter that I'll always be proud of. Thank you."

Dixon is one of several academy players leaving the club this summer. Tyler Onyango and Reece Welch also made first-team appearances before being released. Frankie Okoronkwo, 21, who joined Everton from Sunderland at 16, has signed a two-year deal with League One side Doncaster Rovers after suffering a season-ending hamstring injury while on loan there last season.

Dixon's departure is a reminder of how difficult it is for academy players to bridge the gap to sustained first-team football at a Premier League club. His Premier League appearance โ€” however brief and however difficult the circumstances โ€” represents a milestone he and the club will remember, even if the career arc from that point did not develop as either would have hoped.
